Selections from Job 15–17
After Job answered his third friend, he may have hoped that would put a stop to all their heartless accusations. Not a chance. Eliphaz now returned to the scene, took off the gloves, and started swinging barefisted, thinking it was time to really get down to business. Hard as it is to imagine, there was not a hint of grace in his words. Eliphaz rebuked Job, then followed up with reminders of the fate of the wicked as he ended his speech. Job’s strong response can be summed up as such: he was disgusted, distressed, depressed, and despondent. He had reached rock bottom, and the grave seemed mighty inviting.
