Selections from Job 22–24

The merciless, monotonous assault continued. Two complete cycles had run their course, and Eliphaz was back for round three. He made three critical statements that were neither tactful nor subtle and which proved that habitual critics never get their facts straight. Showing maximum class, not once did Job interrupt his longwinded speech. When Job did respond, he didn’t defend himself. He talked to the Lord and about the Lord and modeled grace under pressure. Through his calm, vulnerable responses, the book of Job teaches us a lingering lesson: though God is elusive, mysterious, and sometimes silent, He is trustworthy.
